HERITAGE UNIVERSITY STEM CLASSROOM REMODEL

Toppenish, Washington

This renovation transforms a 1992 library into a contemporary hub for STEM learning and student collaboration. Updated infrastructure and a reimagined learning center create an environment that is open, accessible, and adaptable to evolving educational needs.

A new Maker Space anchors the design at the main entry, using sliding glass doors, expansive writing surfaces, and modular furniture to foster visibility, inclusivity, and hands-on learning. Existing classrooms and labs were modernized with updated technology and flexible layouts, while the learning center was reconfigured to include breakout rooms and open study areas that support both focused work and group collaboration.

Material selections draw from the building’s original heavy timber structure, with wood slat ceilings and tambour detailing adding warmth and continuity. The result is a cohesive, forward-looking space that bridges the building’s history with a new era of learning.
